白 White
These 8"x10" white books are works of individual guidance workshop. White is the analogy of children’s pure heart while the simple white books represent children’s unknown and uncomprehended images in the eyes of others. We can enter their mysterious hearts when we with books in hand listen patiently to their stories and feelings, revisiting through their eyes our long lost ability to discover and perceive.
心 Heart
Each kid’s painting has a different symbolic meaning. It shows each individual’s emotional needs, mental development and environmental discovery. Colleting and exhibiting the random paintings created by children shows how this exhibition values the in-depth meaning of each painting, which are unique emotional expressions and a candid cognition of the kids’ inner world.

Artistic creation is an expression of human emotions and a space where dreams are realized. Children need to go through stages of being dependent, detaching and establishing a complete concept of ego. In artistic creation children can express ideas and feelings through symbols. Painting is a complex activity, involving ego and instinct as well as mental development and emotional expression. Children can improve hand-mind coordination through painting, while finding true self through symbols and stories. Painting will help children to notice and understand their inner feelings, genuinely explore their life and inner world and build their identification and self-awareness. It integrates feelings, thoughts and imagination and contains in-depth meaning to “one self”. This artistic form mediates the kids’ ego and imagination. The specific image in the painting reflects one’s inner world, and it transforms projections into artistic expression. Children’s paintings show us their unique pureness, emotions and expressions of love.

One-on-one guiding and teaching

Small group workshop
Our parallel universe!

The Ji-Ja world of imagination
The creative activities involve things from daily life, like a tree, a house or a toy. Kids like to combine personal stories with their works and also to play different roles in the creative process. They might be ‘architects’ and design many tree houses because there’re not enough trees in the city, and then the tree houses can be magical or can just be flying at anytime. Or they might be ‘engineers’ and design a transportation vehicle that travels to faraway places like outer space, sea bottom or deep forest…
The activity encourages kids to explore their imagination through different themes, turning things from daily life into creative elements.

Opening a Magic World
Do you like reading? Do you like pop-up books with surprises? Besides reading them, why not create your own?
In the workshop “Opening a magic world”, children will use pop-up books, collages, and paintings to create their own books. Bugs and butterflies with moving wings, a rabbit wonderland, carrot rain, colourful snow, Sailor Moon and MS Gundam…let’s explore all these magic worlds in their book creations.
In addition to everyone’s little books, we created a big book that looks like a mega burger filled with many “ingredients” made by everybody! Some say they don’t like the tomato and lettuce, some say they won’t fall for this fake, but then some start to talk about how many people can be fed by such a big burger. Hey, do you feel hungry?

Colour Exploration
We play with children from Kindergarten D. José da Costa Nunes – Parent Club, trying to explore the magical relationship between watercolour and various materials by different attempts and experimenting, in order to discover the myriads of change and surprising effects. What would happen if we spray some watercolour and sprinkle some salt? Why can’t we see anything if we draw on white paper using white candles and crayons? What did everybody draw? Well, the magic of painting will be revealed as long as we put on some watercolours. The strokes of watercolour pencils magically become blurry and dreamy once they meet water. We use watercolours and paints as our toy and splash our joy and creativity on the wall. This is such an unforgettable experience of playing with colours!

Painting is supposed to be a free and highly enjoyable activity for children!
Using hands and feet, and many other ‘tools’ we may find in life, children will drew on various fabric materials. We really don't need artistic rules, just freedom in creation, splashing paint colours and setting our imagination free. It's a happy interaction between adults and kids! Then we'll use the painted fabrics to create some exciting settings, tents, toys, tablecloths, clocks and wallpapers…This is an amazing world solely made of kids' art works.
