Shadow Play Workshop for Children

When we were kids, we used to manipulate our hands to create numerous enchanting animal shadows. And we even chase after our friends’ shadows and ours. It was a very simple yet exciting game. But, as time goes by, we started to forget it and technology gadgets are gradually replacing it.

Just a lamp and an object, we can create thousands of magical lights and shadows and millions of wonderful stories and performances. We would like to introduce the children, how fun it is the light and the shadows. And open up their creative world via paper puppet making; train their eye and hand coordination during manipulation; infuse the idea of teamwork throughout the learning process. This workshop will massage their muscle of imagination and lead them to their authenticity of creative world.

In this workshop, children:
- participate in brainstorming the storyline
- involve in hands-on puppet / set making
- explore the magical world of light and shadow
- take part in rehearsals and put on a small showcase.

DFC Creative Activists

Kids have unbounded imagination. What can they do to make a difference? Many children around the world have joined DFC to put their ideas into practice for a better planet. Kids don’t have to wait until they grow up to contribute to society. They can do it right now by making changes, big or small, like preventing parental infighting, promoting social integration of people with and without disabilities (PHAB), and sharing the benefits of reading.
This year’s workshop offers local kids a chance to become DFC creative activists. The instructor will give them challenges and inspiration through activities and games, including:
- Enabling children to play different roles (like being map experts, reporters, or detectives) so that they can actively explore and care for people and things around them, in order to develop empathy.
- Enabling kids to choose a theme on ‘ways of changing their community’.
- Encouraging kids to creatively design ‘people-based’ plans for change.
- Enabling kids to put their plans into practice, for the betterment of people and things around them.
- Encouraging kids to share feelings and ideas, thus creating more positive energy among them.
In short, kids will learn creative thinking, empathy and communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and confidence building.
